McGuigan Hallmark hits shelves - Talking Retail

Award-winning Australian wine producer McGuigan has extended its brand footprint in the UK with the introduction of the McGuigan Hallmark range.

Exclusive to Sainsbury's, the two-strong range has an RRP of £7.49 and is bottled in the UK in light-weight glass. Sourced from key vineyard sites in South-Eastern Australia, the Hallmark range includes the fruit forward, lightly oaked 2009 Chardonnay Semillon and the 2009 Cabernet Shiraz, which is aged in French and American oak.

Commenting on the new range, Paul Schaafsma, General Manager UK and Europe for McGuigan brand-owner Australian Vintage said: "The addition of the Hallmark range to our portfolio further strengthens our branded presence in the UK.

Stylistically, the Hallmark range reflect the broader McGuigan approach of producing elegant, sophisticated and well-structured wines that are appropriate for the demands of the global wine market.

Down to Blass tacks - Belleville Intelligencer

It's not just that the popular grape variety is his favourite -- Hatcher sees Chardonnay as emblematic of a lesson learned for the Australian wine industry.

Hatcher said Wolf Blass and other Australian wineries were guilty of becoming complacent in their approach to Chardonnay. They kept turning out the style of wine that had been successful previously, without paying attention to where consumer taste was heading.

Hatcher said Wolf Blass and other Australian wineries were guilty of becoming complacent in their approach to Chardonnay. They kept turning out the style of wine that had been successful previously, without paying attention to where consumer taste was heading. "Certainly from Wolf Blass' position as a company, we challenged ourselves in 2000 to change the style of Chardonnay that we were making," he said.

A big part of changing the style of wine being made in Australia has come from changing where vineyards are planted and how the vines are cared for, Hatcher explained.
